The loss of the city of Bakhmut was a major blow to the Kiev regime which is still denying its defeat. Two days after the Ukrainian military retreated from their “fortress”, Kiev attempted a large provocation on the Russian border aimed at gaining headlines in the MSM in order to hide the truth from Bakhmut.
On May 22, since 9 am local time, the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) began the heavy shelling on the border villages in the Russian Belgorod region. It lasted for several hours and resulted in damage to civilian infrastructure. The main target was the Grayvoronsky region located north of the Ukrainian city of Kharkiv.
The Governor of the Belgorod region claimed that there were no civilians injured. Russian air defense system was active in the area. Part of the rocket fell into the garden of a private residential household in the village of Antonovka. According to the governor, a private house caught fire in the village of Kozinka due to mortar shelling, another one was significantly damaged, a fence and a car were also damaged. In the village of Gora-Podol, a fire started in a hay warehouse of a local farm. In Grayvoron, shells hit the territory of a motor transport company, there is no destruction there. And in the village of Zamostye, the fence of a private house was damaged.
Around noon, after several hours of heavy shelling, a fierce battle was reported near the village of Dronovka, where a group of Ukrainian militants crossed the border. Military equipment has been brought in from both sides, and several drones have been spotted in the sky. Russian air defense forces were still active and Russian aircraft were patrolling the area. Russian Mi-28, Mi-8 and Ka-52 have been spotted in the border area.
A group of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, which included notorious neo-Nazis from the so-called “Russian Volunteer Corps”, the “Legion of Freedom of Russia”, as well as members of the Ukrainian Nazi battalions Azov and Kraken, in armored vehicles, supported by a tank and an infantry fighting vehicle, attacked the Grayvoron border checkpoint in the Belgorod region. In total, up to two tanks, one APC and nine armored vehicles, including T-72, 2 HMMWV, Cougar and KrAZ entered the territory of Russia near the Grayvoron checkpoint.
Ukrainian militants managed to advance to the Kozinka — Glotovo intersection, and from there, Ukrainia servicemen reached the Glotovsky House of Culture by foot. In total, they managed to move several hundred meters deep into the territory of the Russian Federation.

Ukrainian forces were welcomed by the Russian military. Border guards and reinforcement units took the fight. Russian assault aircraft, helicopters and artillery came to the rescue.

According to preliminary reports, several Russian servicemen were wounded. Ukrainian side is also suffering losses.
Later, it was confirmed that at least five civilians were wounded as a result of the shelling of the village of Glotovo by the AFU. They were taken to the hospital and are provided with the necessary medical assistance.
According to preliminary reports, the Ukrainian military pushed away from the Russian territory in several hours. However, the local officials are yet to confirm these reports. The security operation likely continues.
The attack of the Ukrainian military is nothing but another PR campaign, similar to the offensive on the Russian Bryansk region on March 2, 2023. Immediately after the beginning of the operation, Ukrainian sources spread numerous videos showing the military equipment in woods, allegedly heading towards Russia. It turned out that some of them were filmed in the Ukrainian Sumy region and have nothing to do with offensive.
The attack on the border checkpoint was accompanied by the video of dead Russian serviceman. According to the operator, the victim was the only border guard who tried to resist.
The Russian authorities are yet to confirm any losses and the authenticity of the video is yet to be confirmed. The speech of the Ukrainian operator raises doubts and sound more like a speech prepared in advance than a comment made during the battle. Taking into account that Kiev forces filmed numerous fake videos when preparing for the offensive, this one was highly likely staged.
At the same time, the Kiev regime launched a propaganda campaign in the Russian Belgorod region. Ukrainian forces reportedly disrupted the local radio station and attempted to sow panic among the local population, calling on the civilians to evacuate from the settlements. People were also called to evacuate by Ukrainian bogus callers. The local authorities were forced to deny the numerous rumours about the evacuation several times amid the massive information attack. Ukrainian saboteurs also dropped leaflets calling on the Russian military to surrender.
The Ukrainian attack in the Belgorod region has no military goal. However, it is strategically important to create a necessary image in the media. As it was the case in March, Ukrainian Nazis shelled the villages, crossed the border, fired at the local civilians, sowing panic, took some photos and fled away. This is another fake victory of the Kiev regime. Zelensky has always been exchanging lives of his soldiers and officers for likes on the social media.
From the military point of view, the attack may be used as a distracting blow amid the upcoming counteroffensive of the Ukrainian military on the Donbass front lines, which was declared by the Kiev regime months ago.
