Ukraine Targets Russian Warship In Black Sea To Make Up For Failed Att…
Kiev forces attempted to attack a Russian Navy warship escorting civilian maritime transport with a suicide naval drone in the southwestern part of the Black Sea, the Russian Ministry of Defense announced on August 2.
In a statement, the ministry said that the Ukrainian drone was quickly detected and destroyed as a result of professional actions of the Russian warship crew.
The attempt to target the Russian warship came after a wave of failed attacks by Kiev forces. The Russian MoD reported advance attempts in the directions of South Donetsk, Krasny Liman, Zaporozhye, Kupyansk and Donetsk.
In the Donetsk direction, the Russian Yug Group of Forces repelled 12 attacks close to Berestovoye, Spornoye, Severnoye, Staromikhailovka, Maryinka and Krasnogorovka. The group also targeted Ukrainian units near Chasov Yar, Belaya Gora, Krasnogorovka, Kurdyumovka and Dzerzhinsk. Moreover, an ammunition depot of Ukraine’s Liman operational-tactical group near Slavyansk was destroyed.
Ukrainian losses in this direction amounted to 295 troops, two tanks, three armored fighting vehicles, four pickup trucks, an American-made M777 towed, a Gvozdika self-propelled howitzer as well as two D-20 towed howitzers and one D-30, according to the ministry.
Meanwhile in the South Donetsk direction, the Yug Group of Forces repelled an attack near Urozhaynoye. Kiev forces lost 210 troops, three armored fighting vehicles, three motor vehicles, a Polish-made Krab self-propelled howitzer and a Bogdana wheeled self-propelled howitzer in this direction.
In the Zaporozhye direction, Russian forces repelled four attacks by Kiev forces close to Rabotino and Pyatikhatki. An ammunition depot of the 15th Brigade of the National Guard of Ukraine was also destroyed near Malaya Tokmachka. The ministry said that 220 Ukrainian troops, a tank, two infantry fighting vehicles and two motor vehicles were neutralized in this direction.
In the Kupyansk direction, the Russian Zapad Group of Forces advanced toward Novosyolovskoye and Timkovka. The group also repelled two attacks by Ukraine’s 25th Airborne Brigade near Novosyolovskoye.
In addition, the group’s artillery targeted gatherings of Kiev forces close to Timkovka, Kotlyarovka, Pershotravnyovoye, Novosyolovskoye and Artyomovka.
Kiev forces lost in this direction 40 troops, two armored fighting vehicles, two motor vehicles, a Grad multiple rocket launcher, a Polish-made Krab self-propelled howitzer, two Gvozdika self-propelled howitzers, a Nona self-propelled mortar, a Msta-S self-propelled howitzer and a Msta-B towed howitzers, the ministry said.
In the Krasny Liman direction, the Russian Tsentr Group of Forces repelled an attack close to Novovodyanoye. The group also launched a comprehensive fire attack on Ukrainian units near Torskoye, Grigorovka and Chervonaya Dibrova. The ministry said that 115 Ukrainian troops, four armored fighting vehicles, three motor vehicles, an American-made M777 towed howitzer, Gvozdika self-propelled howitzer and a D-30 towed howitzer were neutralized in this direction. .
In the Kherson direction, Kiev forces lost 45 troops, three motor vehicles, an Akatsiya self-propelled howitzer and three Msta-B towed howitzers
The Russian MoD also provided the following details on Ukrainian losses:
Operational-Tactical and Army aviation, Missile Troops and Artillery of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation have neutralized 96 AFU artillery units at their firing positions, manpower and hardware in 118 areas.
In addition, 1 command post of the 15th Brigade of the National Guard of Ukraine was hit near Orekhov (Zaporozhye region).
Ammunition and fuel depots of the 60th Mechanised Brigade of the AFU have been destroyed close to Ogurtsovo (Kharkov region) and Druzhkovka (Donetsk People’s Republic).
Air defense units have shot down 12 projectiles launched by HIMARS MLRS.
In addition, 28 Ukrainian unmanned aerial vehicles have been destroyed close to Novoaleksandrovka, Mankovka, Rubezhnoye, Varvarovka (Lugansk People’s Republic), Kodema, Berestovoye, Veseloye, Vasilyevka (Donetsk People’s Republic), Pavlovka, Orlyanskoye, Chervonogorka (Zaporozhye region), Novopokrovka and Novye Oleshki (Kherson region).
In total, 458 airplanes, 245 helicopters, 5,430 unmanned aerial vehicles, 427 air defense missile systems, 11,084 tanks and other armored fighting vehicles, 1,142 fighting vehicles equipped with MLRS, 5,719 field artillery cannons and mortars, as well as 12,020 special military motor vehicles have been destroyed during the special military operation.
Meanwhile, Russian news sources shared two videos showing some of Ukraine’s losses in recent failed attacks in the direction of Rabotino in the Zaporozhye region as well as others that show strikes on a gathering of Kiev forces in the direction of Bakhmut and two destroyed armored vehicles near Staromayorskoye in the Donetsk region.
Despite facing several setbacks and sustaining heavy losses, Ukraine will not likely halt its spring counteroffensive any time soon. The counteroffensive will likely continue until next winter as the Kiev regime and its backers appear to be willing to pay any cost to prolong the war.
