Naval Drone Hits Oil Tanker South Of Kerch Bridge
Early on August 5, an oil tanker was reportedly targeted by a naval drone attack off the coast of Crimea, near the area of the Kerch Bridge.
The reported explosions were heard around Kerch and the lights of the Kerch Bridge were temporarily disabled as well as the traffic was temporarily stopped. Later after the incident, the limitations were lifted.
Meanwhile, Russian maritime rescue units were deployed to assist the damaged oil tanker. The vessel was left without propulsion as a result of the suspected drone attack.
“The crew is safe, there were no injuries,” a spokesperson for the Novorossiysk Marine Rescue Coordination Center told TASS. “The engine room was damaged, though not severely.”
Two tugboats were dispatched to help the oil tanker and the works to assist the tanker are ongoing.
So far, there have been no official revelation of the name of the tanker involved. However, the vessel is reportedly the Russian-registered Sig oil carrier. The attack allegedly took place about 45 kilometers south of the Kerch Bridge. A radio message from the Sig, requesting assistance, was also circulating online.
A day earlier, on August 4, naval drones of the NATO-backed Kyiv regime attacked the port city of Novorossiysk. At the same time, Kyiv also tried to attack Crimea with aerial drones.
Earlier, the Kyiv regime tried sink civilian ships sailing towards the Bosphorus on August 1 and August 2. However, their military escorts destroyed all attacking drones, according to the Russian military.
In July, a naval drone targeted one of the segments of the Kerch Bridge, killing two civilians and injuring a 14-year-old girl. This attack damaged one lane of the roadway and the flow of traffic was restored within a day.
The terrorist attacks on civilian vessels, infrastructure objects and other targets will continue as long as the Kyiv regime has access to the infrastructure on the coast of the Black Sea.
