On the night of August 14, Russian forces launched new wave of strikes on Ukrainian port and military infrastructure in different regions. According to the local reports, Russian missiles and UAVs were used during the attack. Kiev again acknowledges alleged strikes on civilian infrastructure, hiding truth about destruction of military facilities.
Air raid sirens sounded in Kiev, as well as in the Kiev region, the Kharkiv, Chernihiv, Dnipropetrovsk, Poltava and Sumy regions. Over the past night, successful Russian strikes were confirmed in the Odessa region and in the industrial zone in the city of Zaporozhie.
Massive combined strike of Russian missiles and UAVs hit the region of Odessa. The new wave of strikes on the Ukrainian ports is likely a response to the recent attempt of the Kiev regime to attack the Crimean Bridge and the Crimean peninsula. LINK
According to the Ukrainian reports, 15 Geranium UAVs and 8 Kaliber missiles were used for strikes. Despite the statements of the Ukrainian military about the successful operation of the air defence forces and interception of Russian targets, footage from the spot confirmed the opposite. Numerous explosions thundered in the regions, while heavy fires broke out in the local strategic facilities.
According to preliminary reports, facilities in the local sea port and fuel storage sited were destroyed in Kryzhanovka and the Oil Harbor in Odessa, as well as in Bugayevka.
In their turn, Ukrainian authorities are hiding damage to the strategic infrastructure, claiming that the Russian strikes destroy civilian facilities. The speaker of the Odessa regional administration, Sergey Bratchuk, said that as a result of the fall of debris from downed missiles, the dormitory of one of the educational institutions and a supermarket were damaged. He claims that three people were injured as a result of the attack.
Footage from the city confirmed that a large fire broke out in the local supermarket. However, there is a high probability that the building was struck by Ukrainian air defences but not downed Russian missiles.
The local residents filmed another Ukrainian air defence system failing during the attack in Odessa. Air defense missiles fall a few seconds after takeoff.
On August 14, the commander of the Joint Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Lieutenant General Sergei Naev, explained why Russian drones are difficult to be shot do and they can to fly to Kiev. According to the Ukrainian military, the problem is that “the detection of Russian UAVs has recently been carried out mainly acoustically (by the sound of the engine)”. As a result, the accurate prediction of the flight routes of UAVs and timely response by Ukrainian mobile fire groups are complicated. It seems that Kiev should ask Washington to include combat audiologists in another UAS aid package aimed at strengthening Ukrainian air defence.
