Iraqi Intelligence Uncovers, Destroys Explosive-Laden Truck In Nineveh…
On May 27, the Iraqi Military Intelligence Directorate announced that it had uncovered and destroyed an explosive-laden vehicle in the northern province of Nineveh.
In a statement, the intelligence service said that the vehicle was uncovered during a joint special operation that was carried out by its 15th Division, the army’s 21th Brigade and a commando force from the Western Nineveh Command Center.
“After searching in Wadi al-Tharthar, which is located in Hatra district, a Kia truck laden with different high explosive materials was uncovered,” the statement reads.
The explosive-laden vehicle was moved to a remote desert area then destroyed by the army’s engineer units. No material losses or casualties were reported.
The vehicle was most likely prepared by ISIS cells for use in future terrorist attacks in Nineveh or nearby provinces. The terrorist group orchestrated several bombings in Iraq over the last few years. On 19 July 2021, a suicide bomber of the group killed at least 35 people and wounded dozens in a crowded market in the capital, Baghdad.
Iraq announced the defeat of ISIS in 2017. However, the terrorist group is still active in different parts of the country, mainly in the western, northern and eastern regions.
