Poland orders new command vehicles to support Abrams MBTs

Poland has ordered 12 new command vehicles from Polish manufacturer Rosomak to support its 250 M1A2 Abrams SEPv3 MBTs. (Polish Armaments Agency)

Poland has ordered 12 new command vehicles based on the Rosomak wheeled armoured personnel carrier (APC) to support its 250 M1A2 Abrams SEPv3 main battle tanks (MBTs).

The command vehicles will be used at the battalion level and will be equipped with internal communication subsystems and other basic communication equipment to ensure the secure exchange of classified information, the Polish Armaments Agency announced on 27 December 2023.

In total, the contract is valued at PLN268 million (USD67.1 million), with deliveries expected between 2025 and 2026.

The Rosomak armoured vehicle is a version of the Patria 8×8 armoured modular vehicle (AMV) produced under license by Polish manufacturer Rosomak. The platforms are used by the Polish Land Forces in a number of roles, including as a command vehicle known as Rosomak-WD.

Along with the 250 M1A2 Abrams SEPv3 MBTs due to be delivered from 2026, the Polish Land Forces will receive 38 M88A2 HERCULES technical support vehicles and 25 M1074 Joint Assault Bridges (JABs). The 18th Mechanised Division's 1st Warsaw Armoured Brigade based in Wesoła and the 19th Mechanised Brigade in Lublin will be equipped with the M1A2 Abrams SEPv3 MBTs.
