The Boeing F-15EX completed Integrated Test and Evaluation (IT&E) Phase I, the US Air Force (USAF) announced on 30 August.

Testing was conducted by the USAF's 53rd Wing, based at Eglin Air Force Base, Florida.

Test flights included 19 ‘large-force engagements', integrating with fifth-generation fighters, and launching three AGM-158 Joint Air-to-Surface Standoff Missiles (JASSMs), the USAF said.

“This event marks the conclusion of F-15EX IT&E Phase I,” said the USAF. “Data from this phase will be analysed by the Air Force Operational Test and Evaluation Center and Office of the Secretary of Defense Director of Operational Test and Evaluation for final reporting to steer a full rate production decision determination in the coming months.”

The F-15EX is a two-seat, modernised version of the F-15, based on the F-15QA ordered by Qatar, optimised for air-to-air combat but retaining some air-to-ground capabilities. It is intended to replace the F-15C/D in USAF service.

The USAF accepted the first F-15EX in March 2021. The service intends to purchase up to 24 F-15EXs in fiscal year (FY) 2024, followed by an additional 24 in FY 2025. The USAF plans a total fleet of 104 F-15EXs.

Indonesia signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) for the potential purchase of 24 F-15EXs on 21 August, likely to become the aircraft's first export order.
