Lithuania has transferred maritime radars to the Ukrainian Navy as part of an assistance package.

The equipment was provided at the request of the Ukrainian Navy and will support and enhance its maritime surveillance and awareness capabilities as well as protect Ukraine's territorial waters, the Lithuanian Ministry of National Defence (MND) announced on 27 September.

A Lithuanian MND spokesperson was unable to detail to Janes the type of equipment being sent as well as the timeframes and value of the assistance package. They did add, however, that their “recent military support aligns with Lithuania's broader commitment to bolstering Ukraine's defence capabilities and sovereignty in the face of brutal Russian aggression”.

Along with the transferred equipment, Lithuania is providing medical treatment and rehabilitation and “intense training for the Ukrainian military”, the announcement added.

Since July 2023 the MND has provided EUR500 million (USD523 million) worth of assistance to the Armed Forces of Ukraine comprising, among others, two National Advanced Surface-to-Air Missile Systems (NASAMS), 50 M113 armoured personnel carriers, two Soviet-era Mi-8 helicopters, thousands of Skywiper counter-unmanned aircraft systems (C-UASs), Stinger FIM-92 manportable air-defence systems (MANPADS), L/70 anti-aircraft guns, and ammunition.

Lithuania has earmarked EUR200 million worth of assistance to Ukraine between 2024 and 2026. Primarily, the support will comprise lethal and non-lethal capabilities, military training, financial contributions to support facilities, equipment repair, and personnel training.
